Some Birds of Texas

This gallery of Texas birds was photographed and organized by R. Baker for teh SAIL Pathfinder Club. All images were taken of birds in the wild in Texas unless otherwise noted. They are listed in current Taxonomic order, as per the eBird Taxonomy v2024. If you have been birding a while, you may note sone things appear "out of order" from the ID books you are used to - this is because as more DNA analysis is performed, there are shifts in the way the taxonomic ranks are organized. Old methods of looking at external features to define similarities are being reinforced or replaced by DNA analysis, which has moved some entire Orders to different locations. This gallery is not meant to be used as a field guide, but it may serve as a quick reference for some of the birds you may see across the state of Texas.
