This is the core of the AY Pledge.As the AY Mission notes, youth ministry is the “work of the church that is conducted for, with, and by young people.” It is the youth who lead.You are called to take an active role in reaching out to other youth, guiding them as they grow spiritually, mentally, intellectually and physically.

To Photograph spider webs, dust them gently with cornstarch, or mist with water. Photograph against a dark background, shoot early in the day if possible (for natural dew), and be aware of the effect of even the slightest breeze in moving the web.

Guide Pilot (Currently being tested by the SAILs and some other clubs, but not yet the official requirements)

There are five components to the pilot Guide curriculum: Experience God, Experience Nature, Experience Health, Experience Community, Experience Leadership. Through these five areas, Pathfinders engage with their club, church, and community while enhancing their mental, spiritual, and physical skills and wellbeing. 
Experience God
As a group and independently, study and explore the following three Fundamental Beliefs:
1. The Church
2. The Millennium and the End Of Sin
3. The New Earth

Experience Nature
Do requirement 1, and choose either Outdoor Skills OR Environmental Conservation

1. The Natural World: Now and Perfected
  • Design a series of artwork that helps you hypothesize what the new earth will be like.
  • Visit a body of water and create a docuseries of life around the body of water.  Compare and contrast how life around a body of water might be different in the new earth.
  • Research, visit, or virtual visit a national park or any area that is preserved.  Investigate the reason the area is being preserved or why is it designated a national park?  Create a video or choose or any other creative platform to showcase the park you chose.

2. Outdoor Skills (Complete Requirements 8-12 of Wilderness Living and teach a portion of Red Alert II or Camp Safety).
8. Identify in the wild, prepare, and eat ten varieties of wild plants.
9. Have a personal survival kit of 15 items and know how to use each item.
10. Explain the necessity in wilderness living of adequate sleep, proper diet, personal hygiene, and proper exercise.
11. Have the First Aid honor. In addition to the First Aid honor, know the prevention, symptoms, and the first aid treatment for the following:
a. Hypothermia.                   e. Poison ivy and poison oak
b. Venomous snake bite.    f. Open wound infection
c. Heat and sunstroke.        g. Altitude sickness
d. Heat exhaustion.             h. Dehydration
12. Demonstrate two ways to signal for help.


Teach a portion of one of the following:
Red Alert II
Camp Safety

Environmental Conservation (Do ONE of the following):
Conservation in Practice: 
  • Identify an environmental need not previously identified in your church/community
  • Implement and maintain an environmental conservation project not previously done for 3 months
Recycling: 
  • Practice 3 meaningful ways of Reducing, Reusing,Recycling for one month
Earn one of the following honors not previously earned
  • EnvironmentalConservation
  • Advanced Recycling
  • Climate Science
Experience Health: 

Mental Health (Study on your own and discuss within the club two of the following topics):
Abandonment, Adapting to change, Addictive behaviors, Body Image, Bullying, Eating Disorders, Self-assessment, Self Esteem, Sexual Reproduction, Sleeping Disorders, Stress/Anxiety, Self Harming behaviors, Substance Abuse 
Any other current or pertinent mental health subject

Physical Health:
Define temperance
Do one of the following
  • Critique scenarios or video clip examples on temperance
  • Play a decision making game utilizing temperance topics:
  • Reflect on and role play what it means to practice temperance in all things. 
Analyze how temperance in all things affects life balance.
Complete a self evaluation of life balance (life balance worksheet) as it applies to temperance in all things. 
Utilizing the self evaluation 
  • Analyze and record 2 harmful habits and 2 positive habits
  • Identify 2 positive changes to  improve harmful habits.
Experience Community 

1. Service and Evangelism: As a group, participate in at least one service and evangelism project each year.
2. Community Service: As a group, participate in at least one community service project each year.
3. Church Involvement: As a group, participate in at least one church involvement project each year.
Experience Leadership

Participate in the TLT program for the year, OR do one of the following:
 
1. Pathfinder Leadership
  • Research the 4 types of service (direct,indirect, advocacy, research)
  • Learn 5 techniques for organization,logistics and planning of projects.
  • Utilizing one of the 4 types of service in #1, plan a project for your pathfinder club to participate in.
  • Present detailed project plan to the church board
  • Implement the project
  • Evaluate the implementation and results of the project

2. Church Leadership: 
  • Under the direction of a mentor participate/assist in one or more of the following for at least 3 months:
  •   a. A/V
  •   b. Sabbath school
  •   c. Deacon/Deaconess Duties
  •   d. Worship Planning
  •   e. Any other Church Leadership role
  • Interview your mentor and one other church leader to discover and better understand their passion for their leadership ministry. Develop your interview questions prior to the interview
  • Create a presentation that could be shared with your church community highlighting the individual's ministry.
  • Implement the project
  • Evaluate the implementation and results of the project

3. Community Service Leadership
  • Illustrate the mission, vision, and core values of Adventist Community Services or ADRA (Canada).
  • Under the direction of a mentor, participate in the planning and implementation of at least 2 community service projects with the church or Adventist community center.
