"My hope were already high for this camporee because of last year’s Texas camporee plus the TLT convention, and my oh my did it live up to my expectations. Though it was small it was so much fun. We got to see many old friends and got to meet many new people. An unexpected responsibility of doing the flag rising and lowering was brought up and our very own TLTs stepped up. Though we were all very very nervous we did pretty well for the last minute notice and represented the club well. Overall it was a great camporee! The weather was amazing and spirits were high!"
The SAIL Pathfinders joined six other clubs from the area for the Central Texas-North Camporee in Driftwood over the Easter weekend. The theme was "All In," and the focus was on honing camping skills. There was ample time for the SAILs to meet with Pathfinders from around the area, and everyone had the opportunity to learn about and interact with the herds of goats and sheep. Here are the words of one of our Pathfinders in recalling the Camporee: "My hope were already high for this camporee because of last year’s Texas camporee plus the TLT convention, and my oh my did it live up to my expectations. The weather was amazing and spirits were high!" As usual for the SAILs, the Pathfinders themselves led out in setting up and tearing down camp, in making the meals and cleaning up, getting water and taking care of garbage, and yet there was still plenty of time for activities, meeting others, joining the programs, and practicing key outdoors skills. The SAILs worked on camping skills, including fire starting and knife, hatchet, and ax work, learned about sheep and goat husbandry, studies rocks and minerals, had time for a nature hike, and joined several spiritual programs that provided an uplifting message of hope and confidence. After a rewarding weekend, we are looking forward to our upcoming SAIL club backpacking and camping trip, where we will put some of these skills to the test. And we eagerly look forward to the International Camporee in August!
