![]() The SAIL Pathfinders began archery safety training this month, ahead of our April overnight and archery practice. Mr. Stradling, an Area Coordinator for Central Texas, brought the equipment and discussed the different types of bows, the parts of a bow and arrow, safety and bow history. The SAIL club has been aiming to learn archery since its inception nearly five years ago, but just haven’t had the chance until now. In addition to archery training, the SAILs have been busy raising funds for the International Pathfinder Camporee in Oshkosh later this summer. SAILs have been collecting aluminum cans and accepting donations of cans for recycling. The other night, part of the Junior Unit got plenty of exercise smashing the cans to make them easier to transport. And speaking of exercise, the SAILs recently completed a fifteen mile hike-a-thon around Lake Pflugerville. While not everyone completed all 15 miles, the SAILs and their supporters racked up a total of 225 miles in just under five hours on a blustery spring morning. It didn’t rain, but there was enough wind to make it feel like climbing a hill at times. There was also plenty of bird watching to keep us entertained.
