January SAIL Pathfinder Update

Its been a busy January for the SAIL Pathfinders. We started out with several practice sessions for the upcoming Pathfinder Bible Experience, for which we are studying the books of Joshua and Judges. In addition, the Pathfinders have been leading out in the meetings, in teaching, instructing, working on honors, and brainstorming club pin ideas for the International Camporee.
Our big weekend was our movie night, fossil show, and field trip to the SWAU Dinosaur Science Museum (which we also visited back in 2015) and the Waco Mammoth National Monument. First up was our Austin premier of the new movie The Secret of the Fossil, a fundraiser for our trip to Wyoming later this year for the International Camporee (and to visit a real dinosaur dig site). The Pathfinders ran the show, setting up, selling tickets and concessions, and even showing guests around our display of fossils.
Early the next morning, we set off in the sub-freezing weather to the SWAU Dinosaur Science Museum, where the Pathfinders were treated to a personalized private tour of the exhibits, the storage areas, and the labs. In addition, the Pathfinders made casts of the teeth of Dakotaraptor, and took turns learning and practicing cleaning dinosaur bones, using small pneumatic tools to remove dirt and rock. Following these hands-on experiences, we headed back south, stopping at the Waco Mammoth National Monument, where the Pathfinders could see mammoths, camels and other fossils in the ground as they are found and cleaned by the paleontologists.
If you bump into one of the SAIL Pathfinders, ask them about these experiences, and thanks for your continued support of the club.
