This year the SAILs led a special church service, including a skit by the Junior Unit about the trial of Samson (performed as a children's story), and a special four-part sermon by the TLTs, who presented different stories and sermonettes on the theme of deep waters, highlighting four ideas: overcoming fear, proper preparation, working together, and perseverance - both in our daily life, and in our spiritual life. Below is the video of the full service. You can see the skit at 29:11-37:33, and the sermonettes at 1:03:15-1:42:49 .
The SAIL Pathfinders marked Global Youth Day 2024 through a special service and through a service/fundraiser project, though our outreach activity was postponed due to weather. Although we had to postpone our afternoon outreach due to the weather, the SAILS the next day got up bright and early and headed out to a ranch to help clear a new camping ground ahead of the April 8 eclipse. There was plenty of heavy labor, moving rocks to make a comfortable and safe space for campers. While they didn't see many snakes, there was a brief encounter with a scorpion. Some SAILs moved large rocks, others smaller ones, but all put in several hours of committed labor, ending only as the storm clouds rolled in to unleash another downpour.

The SAILs have a long history of service in the community, and in fact our first activity 15 years ago was taking part in the Lake Travis Underwater Clean Up. Over the years we have helped with the lake clean up many times, helped in response to the Bastrop fires and the Onion Creek Floods, collected food for local food pantries, helped prepare packages for prison ministries, made up disaster response kits, cleaned trails, planted trees, and joined marches downtown raising awareness to anti-drug messages. We look forward to further engagement in our community and beyond! The SAIL Pathfinders have been hard at work building nesting boxes as part of a fundraiser for the upcoming International Camporee. The nesting boxes are designed to be attractive to Black-Crested Titmice, Carolina Chickadees, and Downy Woodpeckers. We saw successful nesting in the boxes last year. Now is the time to get these posted, as the birds are looking for a place to set up their new home. |
