I still remember when I was allowed to attend my first Pathfinder meeting. I had been involved at church and school in what at the time we called “pre-Pathfinders,” (now the Adventurer Club), and even worked on a few Pathfinder honors, but like everyone else, I had to wait until fifth grade to join the Pathfinder Club. I was thrilled to finally get a uniform, to sew my first honor on my sash, to learn drilling and marching (I had already been practicing on my own in anticipation.
When that first Wednesday night arrived, I was dressed and ready to go. If you note in the picture, I am wearing my orange “pre-Pathfinder” scarf and my plastic Helping Hand slide. I had to wait for the formal induction program to finally get my new yellow scarf - the symbol that I was finally part of the Harrisburg Diplomats Pathfinder Club.
I have the same sense of anticipation now, that same sense of excitement, as we prepare to re-start the SAIL Pathfinder Club here at South Austin. We are pulling together a new leadership team, preparing the resources and programs, and getting ready to begin recruiting the latest members of the SAIL Pathfinder Club. We will begin early registration this summer, with a planned re-launch around August. I am excited to once again be helping out with the Pathfinder Club here at Austin South, and looking forward to our new journey together.
Oh, and this year is the Union Camporee, so a great way to get started and meet with Pathfinders from around the Southwestern Union!
