The first Pathfinder meeting of the year is Wednesday, September 5 at 6:30PM. This will be a special meeting where parents are requested to attend. We will review the calendar for the year, share information on camping and equipment, explain the Investiture Achievement program, go over some of the activities and events for the year and discuss the Club code of conduct and expectations from Pathfinders, Parents and Staff. This is the first year that we are asking Parents to attend the entire first meeting, and it is important to have a clear and common understanding of roles and expectations for the year.
If you have not completed registration, please get in contact with the Club Director immediately. If you do not register by the first Club meeting, you will not be able to participate in the Southwestern Union Camporee in October. We are expecting somewhere around 7000 in attendance. The speaker for the Southwestern Union Camporee is Jonatan Tejel, the General Conference Associate Youth Director and World Pathfinder Director! This is going to be an awesome experience, and help Pathfinders get a tiny taste of what is in store for them at the 2014 International Pathfinder Camporee in Oshkosh.
Please note that we have only three SAIL Pathfinder Club Wednesday meetings before the Camporee, so there is a lot to be accomplished early on. September 15-16 we will have an overnight at the Church for the incoming new Pathfinders, and for the Junior Unit (those working on Friend, Companion and Explorer). In addition to having activities, camping training and some extra practice in Drill, we will be heading out to the Congress Street Bridge to watch the bats fly,and work on the Bat honor to ensure the new sashes don’t look so empty.
The SAIL Club’s first service project is the Lake Travis Underwater Cleanup, on Sunday, September 23. The SAIL Club has participated for several years (though we skipped last year in order to help out with the relief for the Bastrop fires). If you have not reserved a spot for this project, please do so quickly, as we will run out of space on the boat soon.
One more piece of exciting news. We will have a guest speaker September 29 for the church service and special induction program - Conference President Carlos Craig.
It’s going to be a great new year, and we are happy you are all aboard!
