In addition to the hike, the SAILs recently attended the Central Texas North honor fair, learning about everything from soap making to sharks to media broadcasts. The SAILs have also been busy getting ready for the upcoming Texas Camporee, working on drill, knots, and first aid, among other skills.
The SAIL Pathfinders kicked off March with a 10 mile urban hike around Ladybird Lake in downtown Austin. Starting off bright an early, the Pathfinders set off to get a little exercise and spend time with one another along the multi-use trail that blends city walking with near natural settings. The hike provided an opportunity to enjoy the Spring weather, see the trees blooming, watch the birds, and of course count turtles. In addition to the hike, the SAILs recently attended the Central Texas North honor fair, learning about everything from soap making to sharks to media broadcasts. The SAILs have also been busy getting ready for the upcoming Texas Camporee, working on drill, knots, and first aid, among other skills. Though an urban hike, we were still able to enjoy a taste of nature, observing a Monk Parakeet nest, learning a few local flowering shrubs (to complement the Tree work we did earlier), and seeing some of the waterfowl moving through the area. It is a great time of year to get out in Central Texas!
