The SAIL Pathfinders are getting ready to kick off a new year, with registration just a week away. Each year the SAILs pick a theme around which we plan our activities.
Last year, it was bridges, dams, and rivers - we hiked and kayaked to Central Texas dams, visited the locks near Matagorda Bay, tested our engineering skills with a bridge-building competition, and generally focused our outings around our local rivers.

The year before, our theme was fossils and dinosaurs - we went on fossil hunts, cleaned dinosaur bones at a museum, practiced mock excavation techniques, and visited a real dinosaur dig in Wyoming.
This year, the theme is bats, birds, and butterflies - things we see around us in the air here in Central Texas. We will build bat boxes and bird feeders, visit bat roosts and birding spots, and learn how to identify (and perhaps even mount) butterflies.
But there is a lot more than nature study. We have several community service and outreach projects in the works, five campouts planned (including the local Central Texas Camporee), first aid and outdoor rescue skills practice, woodworking, marching and drilling….
We have new staff and new club members joining this year, bringing with them new ideas and skills. We will have all new gear as we rebuild from the fire. All in all we look forward to the new Pathfinder Year, and welcome you to follow our adventures and activities here!
