At this week's meeting, we will be finishing preparation for the Pedernales Falls SP campout. The river was still high this past weekend - moving a bit too fast to cross. But the spring birds are moving through, and the damp ground provides a good opportunity for finding and identifying animal tracks.
Senior unit, remember to bring your packed packs to the Wednesday meeting - if you do not have a pack yet, we will have extra ones Wednesday, so bring your gear and pack at the meeting. Also, take some time to review the requirements for the Backpacking honor, and be ready to ask questions about skills and knowledge you need to review. Keep your packs light!
For the Junior unit, we will be learning a bit about ways to measure distance and height in the field, and part of that will be measuring ourselves. Did you know that with a few triangles you can determine the width of the river, or the height of a tree? We are also preparing for some tracking. That includes marking trails and reading trail markers, and identifying the marks left by animals.
