Our TLT’s headed to Lake Whitney Ranch for the annual Texas TLT convention last weekend. The four TLT’s along with a staff member were given many amazing opportunities to learn to be stronger leaders in their clubs and communities.
The SAIL TLT’s took the ‘Activities” class this year where they learned about how to plan different types of actives for the Pathfinder Club and how there is actually a lot more that goes into planning campouts and field trips.
“It was a informational experience overall,” a TLT said about the convention. “The class we took was really informational. It taught me a lot about how we have to always think about the bigger picture when being a leader. I never realized how much you actually had to think of when planning camp outs and trips.’’
The classes weren’t the only place they were learning though; many times throughout the weekend the TLT’s were given the opportunity to make new friends and see some old ones. Like most campouts and camporees there is a time before lights out where TLT’s are able to have free time and mingle. There are so many things to do during this time - basketball and volleyball games are always going on and it isn’t a TLT convention with out the Spanish games happing as well.
“I love those games!” A TLT said. “I’m not very gifted in the sports area so I never really knew what to do during free time but I remember at my first TLT event I was called into doing a numbers game and it was so much fun! Not only was it a fun game, I was able to make many new friends!”
TLT events are always a hit with the attendees. Because it is mainly older more responsible kids there, they are able to do more actives like the rope course named “Odyssey”
“The rope course was definitely my favorite part of TLT convention” a TLT said. “I liked how you were able to do the easy part first and then the hard part because last year they made us choose between one and I wanted to do both.”
Overall TLT convention was a wonderful time and experience! We can’t wait for the next area TLT camp!
