The SAIL Pathfinders had an opportunity to help with the reforestation of Bastrop State Park this weekend. Fifteen of us went out as part of a 70-person tree-planting crew that in just under four hours planted more than 1900 loblolly pines! The park intends to plant some 500,000 trees to help rebuild after the devastating wildfires. An article from the Austin American Statesman explains some of the challenges facing the Lost Pines.
Although it was a bit chilly when we arrived at the park, the tree planting provided plenty of exercise to help us warm up. We were happy to see many small pines that have planted themselves since the fires as well, showing the re-creative power God has placed in nature. It was a privilege to be able to help out.
