Central Texas Camporee - Be Ready Always!

The SAIL Pathfinders just returned from the Central Texas Camporee, themed “Be Ready, Always.” At this camporee, the youth were in charge. They led the worship, led the club in set-up and tear-down, led the groups in the events, and as usual cooked the meals. And, as the camporee theme name implies, the Pathfinders had to always be ready, as the events could occur at any time. The SAILs led the Friday evening vespers and the Sabbath evening songs, and competed in fire-building and a rescue simulation. Some of the SAIL staff and TLTs also had an opportunity to take part in an event to move water across a space between lashed tripods. The SAILs were a first-place club at the Camporee.

As usual, when the SAILs arrived, the rain started, but only a light sprinkle. Sabbath morning we had more rain, but it tapered off just before wake-up time. We were blessed with wonderful weather, not too hot in the day, not too cold at night. Sunrise Sabbath morning was beautiful, reminding us of the God’s hand in creation. Several different yellow wildflowers were in bloom, brightening the fields. Over the weekend, we also saw many yellow and black Banded Garden Spiders (Argiope trifasciata), with webs strong enough to catch grasshoppers. On Sabbath evening, the sky cleared briefly to reveal the half-moon and stars spread out across the sky. Overall it was a wonderful weekend of fellowship with several other Central Texas Pathfinder Clubs and with God out in nature.
