The SAILs worked both inside and outside the truck, helping register recipients, find and package appropriate clothing and bedding and deliver to vehicles. The ACS truck carries some 2000 sets of clothes, prepackaged by size, as well as bedding and emergency toiletry kits and miscellaneous supplies. It has traveled to disasters around the country for decades, and the SAILs have participated in ACS disaster preparation and response training in the past.
The SAIL Pathfinders were called out to help Adventist Community Services Disaster Response over the weekend distribute clothing, bedding and toiletries in response to the Onion Creek flooding. More than 1100 homes have been damaged by the flooding, and residents have already been displaced for days. Some of the stories of those who had to evacuate their homes as the waters rose were harrowing, but their focus was consistently to remember that their lives were more important than their material goods. Although we were only able to provide a single change of clothes and bedding per person, it still offered some help to those recovering from the flooding.
